The Golden
Rock of Kyaik-hti-yoo is the largest visit sight center
in Myanmars domestic-tourism. Located about 130 miles(200km)
from Yangon.
The golden boulder crowned by a Buddhist stupa stands on
a clifftop like a gold gilded round rock fall frozen by
Midas touch which is approximately 20 feet high and 25 feet
long on the edge of the hill over 1100 km above sea-leavel.
Legend has it that a hair of Buddha hold it in balance.There
are many legnds about the pagoda and "Nat" (sprit
gods) shrines along the 11 km uphill trek from the base
camp to the pagoda. Formerly the pilgrimage season is from
Octobr to May, but now it is accessible to go there the
whole year. There is the new motor-car road up to the foot
of the hill's highst desination to climb all the seasons
for the deevotees and visitors.
There is an
entrance fee of US$ 10 and video camera fee of US$ 2 . For
the long walk you may hire a porter for USD 4 there and
back.
At the top
has Kyaik Htiyo hotel where can see full view of the
pagoda.
