Welcome to Mandalay!

Mandalay is the second largest city of Myanmar. Located in central Myanmar and 668 km far from Yangon. It was the last capital before the British colonialisation. Established in 1857 by King Mindon, the second last king of Myanmar. Mandalay is a showcase for Myanmar art and architecture of the 19th century. It is also noted for woodcarvings, silverware, tapestries, silk cloth, and other traditional craft products.
Mandalay Royal Palace is built in 1857 and destroyed by fire during the Second World War, is surrounded by thick brick walls.The model of the Mandalay Golden Palace, Myanan-Sankyaw, the Nanmyint-Saung Tower and the Culture Museum can be found inside the palace ground. 
Mandalay Hill
Mandalay Hill. Situated a couple of hundred meters above town, it offers an excellent view over the city including the Royal Palace can be seen there. 
The Great Maha Muni Budha image was brought from Myohaung (in Yakhine Division) by King Bodawphayar over 200 years ago, and now coverd in thick gold leave. The holist pogoda for Buddhists in Myanmar and they believe that this Maha Muni Budha is a representation of Buddha.
Kutho Daw
The Greatest Book on the Earth , Ku Tho Daw Phayar, situate at the foot of Mandalay Hill. There is buddhist scriptures which were engraved on 729 white marble tablets and are regarded by Myanmar Buddhists as orthodox texts. Each marble tablets are about 3' wide and 4' height. Authorized by King Mindon as a result of the Fifth Buddhist Council, the tablets are setup in a square, each being protected by a small temple. The 730th pagoda is a conventional temple occupying the centre of the square. 
Around Mandalay
Sagaing , is located at  21 km south-west of Mandalay on the opposite bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. The Sagaing Hills are noted as a religious retreat and has over 400 monasteries and nunneries. About 10 km from Sagaing , an enormous dome-shaped pagoda, Kaunghmudaw, was built by King Thalun in 1636. At the near by village of Ywataung, one can see silversmiths making silverware by traditional methods.
The World Largest Ringing Bell , Mingun Bell , is still hung in Sagaing and can still ring. It is 26 feet high and; weighs 90.55 metric tons (55555 peik-thar*). Incredibal! You can ring it and you can get underneath it and take photo. *peik-thar is a Myanmar traditional unit of weight measurement. (1 peik-thar =3.6 pounds or 1.63 kilograms).
Mingon Bell

Pyin-Oo-Lwin (Maymyo) , which was the principal hill station and summer retreat in the colonial period. Pyin-Oo-Lwin is 67 km away from Mandalay. It is over 1000 metres above sea level and has a pleasantly cool weather all year round. The 142-hectare Botanical Garden, Pwekauk Waterfalls, and Chinese Temple are places worth visiting. Nearby are Peik-chin-hmyaung Cave and GokTeik Rail Bridge.
