Taunggyi
is the capital city of Shan State in the eastern part of Myanmar
and it is known for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate.
Located in central Myanmar 668 km far from Yangon. It is cool
the whole year round and the area is colourful with lovely
flowers, pine tress and green orchards. Being situated over
1400 metres above sea- level. The city is ideal for holiday-maker
during the summer. |
In
the Shan State, community markets are held on a rotating basis
in which each town or village within a given area hosts a
market day every five days. The famous market are the thriving
cattle market in Heho, the famous floating market at Inlay
Lake and the colourful market at Kalaw where the Shan tribes
sell their fruits and vegetables. |

Inlay
Lake is the world's highest floating market. Spend a
glorious day on a motorized boat exploring in the lake.
Inlay Lake is famous for its unique "One leg rowers",
floating flower, colourful markets and vegetable gardens
of the Intha tribes. Inlay Khaungdaing Spa and Ywama daily
floating market are placed to visit. Watch the silk weavers,
hand-looms and blacksmiths-work at Innpaw-Khon village.
Celebrate the Inlay traditional unique one-leg rowers races
during the festival of Phaung Daw Oo pagoda. Entrance fee
for Inlay lake is US$ 5.

Mandalay
Hill. Situated a couple of hundred meters above town,
it offers an excellent view over the city including the Royal
Palace can be seen there. |
Phaung
Daw Oo Pagoda-around the compound of the pagoda, there
is plenty of offering Shan handicrafts shops which are
sell hand make goods as silk, cotton longyis and the popular
brightly coloured Shan cotton bags. In September and October
the biggest festival takes place at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda.

Mandalay

Kalaw
is 71 km far away from west of Taunggyi. It is a beautiful
hill station environment by mountains. It still is a peaceful
and quiet resort with meandering mountain streams and fragrant
pine woods. There are Palaung villages nearby and and hill
tribes people in their colour costumes can be seen at Kalaw
market held every five days. The small population is a peculiar
mix of Shan, Indian, Muslims, Burmans and Nepalese. Kalaw
is the starting point for the journey to exciting. |

Pindaya,
located at the foot of Mene-Taung Range about 45 km north
of Kalaw. The road from Kalaw to Pindaya (38 km) passes through
a countryside of magnificent scenic beauty. Spend some time
at the charming village of Pindaya with its cave containing
thousands of centuries-old Buddha images. The images are of
various sizes, some carved in the face of rock and some deposited
in inches in the walls. Entrance fee for Pindaya is US$ 5 |
