The capital of

The main attraction
in Yangon is the 326 feet(99 m) high Shwe Dagon Pagoda,
the highest and the Largest Pogoda
in the world which is a solid stupa(Buddhist reliquary) covered
with gold on hill 168 feet( 51m) above the city. The
perimeter of the base of the Pagoda is 1,420 fee and its height
326 feet above the platform. The base is surrounded by 64
small pagodas with four larger, one in the center of each
side. Entrance fee is about US$ 5. |

ChaukHtat Gyi
Pagoda is the largest colossal
(70 meters long) reclining Buddha in Myanmar.It
is located a short distance beyond the Shwe Dagon Pagoda.
The original image was built in 1907. But it has suffered
damage due to climate over the years. In 1957, it was demolished
and rebuilt to this structure in 1966. |

Over 2000 years
old Sule Pagoda stands in the center of Yangon-beside
Maha Bandoola Park and Independence Monument. "Mon"
name "Kyaik Athok" translates as "the pagoda
where a Sacred Hair Relic is enshrined". The Sule golden
pagoda is unusual in that its octagonal shape continues right
up to the bell and inverted bowl. |

On display are
many old artifacts, among them the Lion Throne of the last
king of Myanmar, Thibaw and the 19th century Royal Regalia
at National Museum. It is at 26 Pansodan Street. Opening
times are Monday to Friday, 10 am - 3 pm, admission FEC 4. |

TheKaba Aye(World
Peace) Pagoda was built only in 1952 for the Sixth Buddhis
Synod in 1954 - 1956. Both its diameter and its height are
34 m. It is far from 11 km north of the downtown. |

Bogyoke
Aung San Market is 70 year old life and you will also
see Myanmar people life in there.There are some 2000
shops selling jewelries, luxury items, Myanmar antiques,
wood, ivory, handicrafts, paintings, gifts, mother of pearl
carving, lacquerware, tapestries souvenirs, fashion and consumer
goods. Beside of Bogyoke Market has FMI-Shopping Center and
it also is a good souvenir shopping place. Opened from 10am-6pm.
Closed on Mondays and holidays. |

Hlawgar
Wildlife Park is about
45 minutes drive from Yangon. This park covers 1650 acres
and its big lake is the home to over 70 kinds of herbvorous animals
and 90 species of birds.Visitors can also have elephant rides,
boating and fishing in the park. |

The Htauk Kyant
Allied War Memorial Cemetery has 27,000 stone graves
of Allied Soldiers. Located at Htauk Kyant, about 32
km from Yangon on the road to Bago. |

Around
Yangon (Thanlyin & Bago)

To
reach Thanlyin from Yangon, just only 30 minutes
drive across the Bago River. The city was a major port from
the 14th to the century, until it was displaced by Yangon
in 1755, and was briefly controlled by the Portuguese adventurer
de Brito at the beginning of the 17th century. Kyaikkhauk
Pogoda in Thanlyin and Yele' Pagoda at Kyauktan are some of
the places of interest. "Bago city". |

Bago
is located only 80 km from Yangon, and ancient capital of
the Mon Kings of the 14th to 16th century and of secound Myanmar
Empire created by King Bayint Naung. The Shwemawdaw Pagoda,
Kalyani Thein (Ordination Hall), the four gaint Buddha images
of Kyaikpun Pagoda and the 16th century Kanbawza Thadi Place
of King Bayint Naung. |
